LOUIS VUITTON SS11 (BY MARC JACOBS)

If there's one campaign that's going to get an honorary mention for stealing the spotlight this SS11 and be inducted into the hall of fame for teaching every other fashion house in Paris and Milan what 'runway cut-through' and 'beyond memorable' means, it's going to be the Louis Vuitton SS11 collection.

Thou shalt not be surprised to learn the Artistic Director is none other than Marc Jacobs. Photographer: Steven Meisel.
How does this translate on the runway?

Perfectly. That's how...

The excessively luxe Oriental theme makes me swoon. The rich colours and shimmering textures of the fabrics, hair and make-up say this is just too perfect for when the clock strikes twelve. All while lingering heavily with Art Deco and Art Nouveau - probably in the basement of an up-market Opium Den with the high rollers and rich kids of Shanghai.

“We started from the very beginning this season talking about glamour and something very stylized, very glossy", says Louis Vuitton Artistic Director Marc Jacobs.

“We arrived at something which I would compare to the Eiffel Tower lighting up every hour on the hour - something of artifice that is just so gorgeous, and glamorous, and beautiful, that you are completely mesmerized by it.”

Luxe. Obviously minimalism has left the building.
