She was cast as Shoshanna Dreyfus in Quentin Tarintino's film, Inglorious Basterds (rating: 8.4/10 on IMDB and one of my favourite movies). Interesting facts:
#1. Melanie is Jewish and has both Ashkenazi and Tunisian Sephardic ancestry.
#2. During WWII, her grandfather survived Nazi deportation.
#3. She learnt to speak English while filming Inglorious Basterds.
#4. Inglorious Basterds is currently Tarintino's highest grossing film to date. It grossed $320,351,773 at the Box Office worldwide.
In the movie, Shosanna gets revenge when several high-ranking Nazi officials attend a night premier at her cinema. She was the only survivor after Nazi's killed her family while they hid under the floorboards three years ago. She plots to burn down the cinema during the premiere by lighting extremely flammable nitrate film and succeeds, but dies in the process.
Alrighty...personal satisfaction based on what your own family went through in WWII? Perfect role for a Jewish woman? TICK TICK TICK.
